THE GREAT MISTAKE OF RACHEAL
While studying the life of Racheal, I realized that it was just one act of mistake she made and she was greatly punished for it, this singular act brought series of questions that keeps running through my mind. Why did Racheal decide to steal her father’s Idol, why did she go as far as hiding it by sitting on it when her father came in search for it? Genesis 31:19, “And Laban went to shear his sheep: and Rachel had stolen the images that [were] her father’s.” Genesis 31:32, “With whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let him not live: before our brethren discern thou what [is] thine with me, and take [it] to thee. For Jacob knew not that Rachel had stolen them.”
Why did she choose to still hold on to the past by holding on to her father’s idol, when a great future awaits her in God? Why did she consider the idol as her inheritance and never saw the great inheritance that awaits her in God? Does she even know this God? Does she even know the great covenant the Lord had established with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Israel) her husband? Was she even aware of the great blessings that await her with her union with Israel? Was she even aware that there is a God who had chosen to bless her generation and chosen to bless all nations through her generation?
SAY NO SUICIDE!
Some days ago, a fine man was declared missing on Social Media by name Dele Bandele, few days later, he was found dead, he had committed suicide.
A lot of questions keep rising in my heart over Racheal and what her little act had caused her. If only she knew what she had traded away by that singular act of holding on to her father’s idol, If only she knew she wouldn’t have make that grievous mistake. Racheal never had a personal encounter, walk with God. She was greatly loved and cherished by Jacob (Israel), but never realized how she was greatly loved and cherished her husband, because if she actually did, she would have realized deep in her heart that her singular act will bring great pain to her husband and he wouldn’t have expected such from his dear wife. She never understood the great covenant of God resting upon her life through her union with Jacob. She wasn’t aware of the covenant of God upon her marriage. Jacob being unaware of the grievous act of His dear wife (Rachel) in Genesis 31:19b, “And Laban went to shear his sheep: and Rachel had stolen the images that [were] her father’s.” placed a curse on whosoever the craven image was found in his /her possession, never realizing that he just cut short the live of his dear beloved wife out of pain and anger Genesis 31:32, “With whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let him not live: before our brethren discern thou what [is] thine with me, and take [it] to thee. For Jacob knew not that Rachel had stolen them.” Perhaps if Jacob had realized ahead of time that it was Racheal is dear wife who stole his Father in laws idol, most likely he would have apologized on her behalf and refrain himself from reacting out of anger and fury. Racheal died in her prime, she didn’t even live to enjoy her marriage, she didn’t live to mother her children. She didn’t even live to enjoy 10percent of God’s covenant established upon her. She rendered her children motherless at a very tender age. If not for the deep love Jacob had for her, which he later transferred to her children (Joseph and Benjamin) after her death, what would have been the fate of these children? Just a singular act of hers lead to a lot of pains not just only in her life, her husband suffered for it, even her children were not left out, they also suffered for it.
Before you take that singular step or decision of yours please think twice because just a singular act of yours might lead to a lot of crisis that if care is not taken might lead to a lot of pain in the life of others who were not there with you when you were making that decision. Let God be the director of your steps and decision. Any decision or step taken outside of God will lead to grievous mistakes that will surely come with great punishments and pains. Such was the case of Racheal. Learn from the story of Racheal. May you never take a step that will lead to pains and punishment in your life and that of others most especially your children. What is that Idol you are holding on to! Many are still holding on to a lot of idol, in-fact the world system is filled with a lot of idols. It’s not until you have a craven image before you know you are holding on to an idol. Anything that you hold on to in high esteem far above the Name of God, your relationship, fellowship and walk with God is an idol. Let go of it today before it is too late. Let go of that idol today before it destroys you. 1 John 5:21, “Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.” Little children, keep yourselves from idols.
