The book of Ecclesiastes 1:9 says, “History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new.” Verse 10 says, “Sometimes people say, “Here is something new!” But actually it is old; nothing is ever truly new.” New Living Translation. Prophet Isaiah said in Isaiah 43:19, “Behold, I will do a new thing. Now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” NKJV. Comparing the two reports from the same Scripture, can we say that God is a liar or an author of confusion? But Number 23:19 says, “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” NKJV.

God will never show hurdles you must cross; the battles you must win; strange ordeals you must pass through in your sojourn on earth. He will rather show you the GLORY ahead. In between are battles you must fight with the last breath in us, oppositions you must contend with and temptations you must resist.

This implies that, God wants us to know that new things can still emanate from old things, thereby making it to become new for that particular period or season. God has given us all it takes to make things happen. God endows us with spiritual, mental, and physical capacity to turn things around. If we refuse to do something, the old things will remain old forever. God is constant. The creation of heaven and earth is also constant. Every season is constant. Day and night is constant. But, men are the variables, endowed with high level of intelligence to bring forth new things in every season. Mankind interacts with other constant factors to create new things.

In relation to a new year we do celebrate every year. We do celebrate it, hoping for a new beginning. We do talk about new resolutions, things to make the year a memorable year.  But in real sense, there is nothing new about a new year! It is just a mere passage of time. A year is made up of seconds, minutes, hours, days, nights, weeks, months. The same events of life recur day in, day out! New babies are born; many exit the world at a tender age and others at an old age. News of natural and man-made disasters across the nations of the world! Some live, some die, life goes on. All events of life (be it good or bad), forming a strong bond we are witnessing every day. A new year does not come with a new level or a new package. The year will unfold the same events we have been witnessing since the world began.

Everything about a new year is constant, what makes a new year to become a memorable is the ability to transform our lives to become better person. If not, things will remain the same forever. Going back to the first reference of the Scripture above, it is obvious that there is nothing new under the heaven because lives revolve around constant creatures made by God. In the process of revolving round the constant events of life, everyone should develop the newness of heart, putting into active work, our spiritual, mental and physical capacity, to bring forth new things from constant old events of life. As we begin a new year, the newness of the year begins with you. Put in your best to guarantee new things in your life.
