What are your utterances when you are facing the challenges of life? What do you allow to dominate your thoughts when you are passing through that difficult time? Are they positive or negative thoughts?

Your thought is your word, and your word is your world. The words you speak mould your life in a particular direction. Your words reflect true picture of who you are. The words you speak define your destiny. The words can either make you or mar your destiny.

Our thoughts play a crucial role in what we speak out as individual. It is an act of thinking and it is affected by what we feed our hearts with. What we allow our minds to absorb in every engagement of life with modify our thoughts towards a particular pattern of expression. Matthew 12:34, “O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” New International Version says “For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” That is why you must be conscious of what you allow to flow into your mind. You must guard your mind from any events of life that will corrupt your thinking pattern. Proverbs 4:23 “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.” Legacy Standard Bible says “Guard your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life.” If you open your mind to trash, your thought will be filled with trash, you will speak trash, and your life will definitely manifest trash. Likewise, if you fill your thought with godly things, your thought will filled with positive things, you will speak positive things and your life will attract positive things. Our thinking pattern follows the law of attraction. What you input is what your mind will process and later bring out as end product. Proverbs 23:7 “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.”

That is why you must safeguard your thoughts through God’s words. If you feed your mind with God’s words, it will be very difficult for your mindset to welcome strange thoughts that may want to dominate your mind. God’s words will repel every evil word that wants to gain access your inner mind.

As Christians, we must develop capacity for studying the words of God daily. You must be a lover of God’s words. Psalm 119:105, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalms 119:130, “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.” God’s words illuminate your inner mind to have deep understanding of every situation, beyond what you can see. It helps you to operate in the realm of the spirit, to bring your desired events to pass as against unfriendly events you are passing through. Psalms 119:11 “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” His words protect our thoughts from being corrupted. It transforms our thoughts. His words make us think like Him. His words repel evil thought from taking over your spirit, soul and body. It helps you to see beyond the physical. It develops your faith capacity to believe more in Him. His word helps us to exercise our faith in time of trials and challenges of life.

Note this, many have cancelled God’s ordained plans for their lives through what they permit to flow into their thoughts, which has taken dominion over their mindset and also manifest in what they speak out. Genesis 30:1, “And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die”. Rachel’s words consumed her. She got the sons, but she was not alive to see them fulfilling God’s ordained purposes for their lives. Samson’s words put a permanent end to his mission on earth. He would have prayed to God to empower him once again to subdue his enemies and God would have answered him. But he made a wrong request to God Judges 16:30, “And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life.:

The birth of John the Baptist would have been aborted through His father’s words when angel Gabriel visited him to deliver the message of his birth to Zacharias. Luke 1:5-20, “5There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth. 6And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. 7And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years. 8And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his course, 9According to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord. 10And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense. 11And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. 12And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. 13But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John. 14And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth. 15For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb. 16And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God. 17And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. 18And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years. 19And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings. 20And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.

For Zacharias not to hinder the birth of his son, the angel made dumb for a season.

Another event would have altered his ordained purpose on the day of his naming.

His father’s kinsmen wanted to name him Zacharias, but his mother insisted that his name shall be called John. Luke 1: 59-64, “59And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father. 60And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John. 61And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name. 62And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called. 63And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all. 64And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God.

Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the Saviour of the mankind would have suffered the same fate when Angel Gabriel visited her, but she did not argue with the Angel Luke 1:38, “And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.”

What are your utterances when you are facing the challenges of life? What do you allow to dominate your thoughts when you are passing through that difficult time? Are they positive or negative thoughts? What are the thoughts of your heart? What are your words? Remember that your thoughts and your words have a full hold of your destiny. They can open up your destiny to greater height. They can also shut down your destiny from attaining higher heights in your lifetime.

Guard your thoughts because they will become your words, guard your words because they will become your actions, guard your actions because they will become your habits, guard your habits because they will become your character; guard your character because they will become your destiny. God’s wisdom is not earthly wisdom.
