Divine favour is the special, unearned blessing, grace, and approval from God. It is the hand of God resting upon a person, causing help, protection, promotion, and success beyond natural ability. Divine favour cannot be manufactured by human strength, intelligence, or connections; it is a gift that proceeds from God’s goodwill and mercy.

Throughout Scripture, divine favour is evident in the lives of men and women whom God chose to lift, preserve, and prosper according to His divine purpose.

UNDERSTANDING DIVINE FAVOUR

Divine Favour Is Unmerited Grace

Divine favour is not a reward for good works but an expression of God’s grace. Ephesians 2:8–9, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” This means divine favour is not earned; it is freely given by God according to His mercy and purpose.

Divine Favour Is a Spiritual Force

Divine favour operates as a spiritual force that turns failures into achievers, brings supernatural help, and resolves complex challenges, including financial and destiny-related dilemmas. Psalm 30:5, “For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” Where favour is present, life speaks, doors open, and restoration occurs.

Divine Preference

God sometimes chooses and elevates individuals over others who may appear more qualified by human standards. Romans 9:15–16, “For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.” Divine favour is God’s sovereign choice to lift a man.

Manifestation of Divine Favour

Divine favour manifests in guidance, protection, supernatural remembrance, prosperity, and destiny helpers locating you at the right time. Psalm 5:12, “For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.”

JOSEPH: A CLASSIC EXAMPLE OF ALL-ROUND DIVINE FAVOUR

Joseph enjoyed divine favour from an early stage of his life.

Joseph and the Coat of Many Colours. The coat was a symbol of distinction, preference, and favour. Genesis 37:3, “Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours.” This favour distinguished Joseph even among his brothers.

Divine Favour Does Not Exempt You from Trials

Although Joseph carried divine favour, he faced rejection, betrayal, slavery, false accusation, and imprisonment. Genesis 39:20–21, “And Joseph’s master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison. But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.” Favour does not stop trials, but it ensures that trials do not stop destiny. Even in adversity, favour speaks.

THINGS THAT ATTRACT DIVINE FAVOUR

  1. Knowing God Personally. You must know God, the giver of all things, not merely know about Him. Daniel 11:32b, “But the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.” Divine favour flows through intimacy with God
  2. Faithfulness and Moral Integrity. Joseph remained faithful to God even when temptation presented itself. Genesis 39:9, “There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back anything from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” Faithfulness preserves favour. Luke 16:10, “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much…”
  3. Diligence and Commitment. David was diligent in his assignment before he was crowned king. 1 Samuel 17:34–35, “And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth…” Diligence prepares you for divine elevation. Proverbs 22:29,“Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.”
  4. Humility. God resists pride but releases favour to the humble. James 4:6, “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.”
  5. Obedience to God. Obedience positions a believer for supernatural favour. Deuteronomy 28:1–2, And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.
  6. Righteous Living. Righteousness attracts divine approval. Proverbs 12:2, “A good man obtaineth favour of the LORD: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.” Divine favour is not luck; it is God’s unmerited advantage upon a life. While favour does not cancel trials, it guarantees victory in the midst of them. Like Joseph, those who walk in the fear of God, faithfulness, diligence, humility, and obedience will experience favour that speaks louder than opposition. Psalm 102:13, “Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come.”

PRAYER

  1. Prayer for Mercy and Unmerited Favour Psalm 102:13, “Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come.” O Lord, arise in Your mercy and remember me. 3. Prayer for Favour in the Sight of God and Men Luke 2:52, “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” Lord, cause me to grow daily in favour with You and with men. 5. Prayer for Favour That Cancels Rejection. Isaiah 60:15, “Whereas thou hast been forsaken and hated, so that no man went through thee, I will make thee an eternal excellency, a joy of many generations.” Father, let Your favour wipe away every mark of rejection in my life. Turn every past shame into honour and celebration, in Jesus’ name.
  6. Prayer for Favour That Brings Helpers. Psalm 89:17, “For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted.” Lord, by Your favour, connect me with destiny helpers. Cause those ordained to help me to locate me without stress or delay, in Jesus’ name.
  7. Prayer for Favour in Work and Endeavours. Psalm 90:17, “And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.” O Lord, let Your beauty and favour rest upon the work of my hands. Establish my labour and cause it to produce outstanding results, in Jesus’ name.
  8. Prayer for Favour That Brings Promotion. Psalm 75:6–7, “For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south.

But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.” Father, by Your divine favour, lift me above limitations. Promote me beyond human expectations, in Jesus’ name.

  9. Prayer for Favour That Preserves Life. Psalm 5:12, “For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.” Lord, surround me and my household with favour as a shield. Let Your favour preserve us from danger, evil, and untimely death, in Jesus’ name.
  10. Prayer for Enduring Favour. Proverbs 3:3–4, “Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:

So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.” O Lord, let mercy and truth abide with me. Grant me enduring favour that will speak for me all the days of my life, in Jesus’ name.

  11. I declare that by divine favour, my night season is over. Joy, lifting, and divine approval are my portion from today onward, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
