It is God’s desire to lead us always through the path that will take us to a place of fulfillment within our lifetime. God is intentional about destiny. He does not create any man without purpose, and He does not reveal purpose without also providing guidance. Once God reveals the purpose of your creation, the next thing He does is to lead you through the specific paths that will make that purpose fulfilled.
Purpose without divine direction leads to frustration, delay, and sometimes destruction. That is why divine guidance is not optional for anyone who desires to end well.
GOD REVEALS PURPOSE AND THEN GIVES INSTRUCTION
When God revealed the purpose of Jeremiah, He did not stop at revelation alone; He followed it with clear direction and continuous instruction. Jeremiah 1:5, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” From that moment onward, God continually instructed Jeremiah on what to speak, where to go, and how to carry out his assignment on earth. Revelation of purpose was followed by guidance for fulfillment.
In the same manner, when God called Abraham, He demanded obedience even before full clarity. Genesis 12:1–2, “Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.” God did not tell Abraham the name of the land immediately. He asked him to leave certainty for uncertainty. From a human perspective, this instruction does not make sense. Human wisdom prefers security, familiarity, and visible assurance. If Abraham had processed God’s instruction using human reasoning alone, obedience would have been difficult.
That is why God declares clearly in Isaiah 55:8–9, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” The gap between God’s perspective and human understanding cannot be bridged by logic, intellect, or experience. Nothing on this earth is sufficient to close that gap. Only trust and submission to God can.
THE NEED FOR DEEP UNDERSTANDING THROUGH FELLOWSHIP
Because God’s ways are higher than ours, we need deep understanding of His instructions. This understanding does not come casually; it is cultivated through consistent and intentional fellowship with God. Divine direction flows out of divine intimacy. Without fellowship, instructions may be heard but misunderstood, or obeyed partially. Psalm 32:8, “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.”
FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD MUST BE A TWO-WAY COMMUNICATION
In our daily fellowship with God, communication must be mutual. Fellowship with God is not a monologue; it is a dialogue. God speaks, and we listen. We speak, and He listens. Jeremiah 33:3, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” John 10:27, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” Revelation 2:7, “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” As we pour out our hearts before God, He listens attentively. Psalm 50:15, “And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.” Psalm 62:8, “Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us.” Psalm 34:15, “The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.” God desires this fellowship to be relational and mutual. James 4:8, “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” 1 John 5:14, “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.”
In our daily fellowship with God, He requires three vital parts of every believer: the ears, the eyes, and the mind.
GOD NEEDS OUR EARS
The ear represents our ability and willingness to hear God. Fellowship with God begins with listening. God is always speaking—through His Word, through the Holy Spirit, through godly counsel, and sometimes through quiet inner promptings. However, many believers pray but do not listen. Matthew 11:15, “He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.” This means that God speaks, but only attentive hearts receive His voice. When we yield our ears to God, we learn to distinguish His voice from noise, truth from deception, and divine instruction from human opinion. A believer who is spiritually deaf will struggle in fellowship, because relationship thrives on communication.
To hear God clearly, one must maintain a calm and yielded heart. We must not allow the distractions and noise of the world to block our spiritual hearing. We must be patient, calm, and meek in spirit before we can hear Him accurately. A man devoid of these qualities will find it extremely difficult to hear God, because God often speaks in a gentle and quiet manner. 1 Kings 19:11–12, “And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.” Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”
GOD NEEDS OUR EYES
The eyes symbolize spiritual perception and discernment. God wants us to see what He is doing, to perceive His hand in our lives, and to recognize spiritual realities beyond the physical. Psalm 119:18, “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.” Ephesians 1:18–19, “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power.”
Many people walk with God yet remain blind to His purposes because their spiritual eyes are closed. When our eyes are surrendered to God, we begin to see beyond circumstances. We see lessons in trials, direction in confusion, and hope in darkness. The children of Israel witnessed mighty signs and wonders in Egypt, yet when they arrived at the Red Sea, all they could see was the end of the road. They failed to perceive that God had already prepared a way through the sea. Exodus 14:13–14, “And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.
The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” Because they lacked spiritual perception, they frequently provoked God to anger. When Moses sent spies to the Promised Land, the land truly flowed with milk and honey. However, the majority of the spies returned with a negative report. Numbers 13:32–33, “And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature. And there we saw the giants… and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.”
Only Caleb and Joshua believed they could possess the land, because they saw with the eyes of faith. Numbers 14:6–9, “And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh… said unto all the company… If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.” Because of unbelief and spiritual blindness, many perished in the wilderness. Hebrews 3:19, “So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.” God fellowships deeply with those who see with the eyes of faith, not merely with the eyes of flesh. It is therefore important to keep the company of those who see clearly and spiritually.
GOD NEEDS OUR MIND
The mind represents understanding, meditation, and alignment. Fellowship with God is not emotional alone; it is also intellectual and transformational. God desires a renewed mind—one that thinks in harmony with His Word. Romans 12:2, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” A mind that is cluttered with fear, carnality, pride, or unbelief will struggle to enjoy intimacy with God. When we surrender our minds, we begin to think God’s thoughts, interpret life through His truth, and respond to situations with spiritual wisdom rather than natural impulse. 1 Corinthians 2:16, “For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.” God communes deeply with a mind that is disciplined, reflective, and anchored in truth.
PURITY OF MIND AND PROMPT OBEDIENCE. We must purge our minds of anything that corrupts our ability to hear from God. Psalm 51:10, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” We also need prompt and absolute obedience to His instructions. Once God speaks, and we hear, see, and perceive His will inwardly, we must obey without doubting. Delay creates room for satanic suggestions and conflicting thoughts. James 1:22, “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” 2 Corinthians 10:5, “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”
In summary, the ears hear God, the eyes see God, and the mind understands God. When these three are yielded daily, fellowship becomes richer, clearer, and more fruitful.
God is not looking for partial attention. He desires a man who listens attentively, sees clearly, and thinks rightly. This is the pathway to a strong, consistent, and life-transforming walk with God.
May the grace to act promptly and completely on God’s instruction rest upon you, in Jesus’ name.
