God wants us, especially His children, to experience freedom in every area of our lives and at all times. Freedom is part of God’s purpose for those who belong to Christ. Jesus declared: John 8:36, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” The Apostle Paul also declared:, Galatians 5:1, “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”
Therefore, God’s desire is not for His children to live under the bondage of sin, fear, oppression, sickness, affliction, or any work of the enemy. Christ came to establish us in liberty.
One of the freedoms God desires His children to enjoy throughout their lifetime is good health and soundness in spirit, soul, and body. 3 John 1:2, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. God is interested not only in our spiritual well-being but also in our physical and emotional well-being. Paul prayed: 1 Thessalonians 5:23, “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” This shows God’s concern for the whole person—spirit, soul, and body.
Good health is a major key to a fulfilled and productive life. If a person possesses many things in life but lacks good health, enjoying those things can become extremely difficult. Sickness can bring pain, anguish, limitations, frustration, and emotional distress. When health is severely compromised, a person’s capacity to pursue dreams, fulfil assignments, serve others, work effectively, and enjoy the blessings of life can be greatly reduced. Dreams may appear shattered, hope may seem dashed, and the strength to pursue one’s God-given purpose may become limited. This is why the enemy seeks to use sickness and affliction as instruments of frustration against God’s purpose for human lives. Jesus said: John 10:10 ,“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
Therefore, every satanic agenda against your wellness, health, and soundness in spirit, soul, and body is frustrated now, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ! Every power assigned to frustrate God’s agenda for your life through sickness, affliction, infirmity, or oppression shall be broken, in Jesus’ name.
ONE OF THE MAJOR MINISTRIES OF JESUS CHRIST WAS THE MINISTRY OF HEALING
Jesus Christ demonstrated the Father’s compassion and power through His healing ministry. The Bible says: Acts 10:38, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” Jesus went about doing good and healing those who were oppressed of the devil. His healing ministry demonstrates that God is concerned about the condition of humanity and that His power is sufficient to bring deliverance from sickness and oppression.
THE WOMAN WITH THE ISSUE OF BLOOD WAS HEALED
The Bible records the story of a woman who had suffered from an issue of blood for twelve years. Mark 5:25–34, “And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?
And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.
But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.”
THE MAN WHO HAD BEEN INFIRM FOR THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS
Another powerful testimony is that of the man who had suffered from his infirmity for thirty-eight years. John 5:5–9, “And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.” The length of the man’s affliction did not make him beyond the reach of God’s power. Thirty-eight years could not withstand one encounter with Jesus!
BARTIMAEUS, THE BLIND MAN, CRIED OUT TO JESUS
Bartimaeus refused to remain in his condition. When he heard that Jesus was passing by, he cried out for mercy. Mark 10:46–52, “And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.
And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee. And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus. And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.”
PETER AND JOHN HEALED THE LAME MAN AT THE BEAUTIFUL GATE
The healing ministry did not end with the earthly ministry of Jesus. The early Church also demonstrated the power of God to heal. Acts 3:1–8, “Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.”
HANDKERCHIEFS AND APRONS, AND EVEN PETER’S SHADOW
God also demonstrated His healing power through extraordinary means in the early Church.
Concerning Paul: Acts 19:11–12, “And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:
So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.” Acts 5:15–16, “Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed everyone.” These testimonies demonstrate that the healing power of God was actively manifested through Christ and His apostles. They testify to the fact that God has made provision for the deliverance and healing of His people.
HEALING PROVISION IS AVAILABLE FOR OUR TOTAL FREEDOM FROM SICKNESS
All these biblical testimonies testify that God is able to deliver, restore, strengthen, and heal. The Psalmist declares: Psalm 103:2–3, “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases.” Therefore, we must not forget the benefits of our relationship with God.
WHAT MUST YOU CONSTANTLY DO TO ACCESS HEALING?
- COME WITH GENUINE REPENTANCE TO GOD: We must approach God with a sincere and repentant heart. 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” Genuine repentance involves turning away from sin and turning wholeheartedly toward God.
- SEEK FORGIVENESS OF SIN: Sin should never be treated lightly. We must continually maintain fellowship with God through repentance and the forgiveness He provides through Christ. 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” The Bible also connects prayer, confession, forgiveness, and healing: James 5:15–16, “And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
- RENEW YOUR COVENANT OF HEALTH, SOUNDNESS AND WELLNESS: We should continually reaffirm our confidence in God’s covenant promises through the power of the blood of Jesus Christ, the power of His resurrection, the power of His name, and the everlasting covenant of His sure mercies. The blood of Jesus gives us access to God: Hebrews 10:19, “Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus.” The resurrection of Christ is the foundation of our living hope: 1 Peter 1:3, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”
There is power in the name of Jesus: Acts 4:10,“Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.” And we have the assurance of the everlasting covenant: Hebrews 13:20–21, “Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well-pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” God also speaks of His covenant mercy through David: Isaiah 55:3, “Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.”
Our confidence is not in human strength, medicine, material possessions, or our own ability. Our ultimate confidence is in God, the finished work of Jesus Christ, His blood, His resurrection, His name, and His everlasting covenant. Every satanic agenda against your wellness and soundness in spirit, soul, and body is frustrated now, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. May the Lord preserve your spirit, soul, and body. May He strengthen you, restore you, and cause you to fulfil His purpose for your life, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
