The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Osun State Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Olalekan Kehinde, for allegedly vandalizing railway tracks in Dagbolu, Osun State. His accomplice, known as Abbey, remains at large.
According to the State Commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo, investigations revealed that the duo used hammers to remove Pandrol clips from railway tracks on November 17, 2024. They were caught red-handed the following day, resulting in Olalekan’s arrest while Abbey evaded capture.
In his confession, Olalekan disclosed that Abbey introduced him to the illicit activity, and they sold the stolen materials to metal scrap dealers. The Commandant expressed concern over the increasing cases of vandalism of critical national infrastructure and warned scrap dealers against buying stolen materials. He announced plans for routine inspections of scrap yards, promising strict legal actions against offenders.
Sotiyo commended the vigilance of Dagbolu residents, whose prompt intelligence facilitated the arrest. He called on the public to remain security-conscious and collaborate with the NSCDC to safeguard national assets.
