Osogbo, Osun State – November 6, 2024— The newly appointed Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, CC Igbalawole Sotiyo, paid a courtesy visit to AIG Patrick Ogong Edung, the Assistant Inspector General of Police overseeing Zone 11 Command Headquarters, in the wake of a recent clash between NSCDC personnel and police officers in Osun State.

During the visit, which took place on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, Commandant Sotiyo highlighted his concern over the altercation that resulted in the assault of NSCDC personnel by police officers. He pointed out that public service conduct should align with the Public Service Rules (PSR), which strictly oppose physical brutality. Sotiyo emphasized the importance of senior authorities stepping in to mediate conflicts for the sake of maintaining peace and upholding professional standards.

AIG Patrick Ogong Edung expressed gratitude for the visit and reiterated the significance of collaboration between security agencies. He acknowledged that while the rank-and-file levels of various agencies sometimes experience tension, senior officers typically demonstrate effective cooperation. The AIG stressed that fostering a culture of teamwork and leveraging inter-agency partnerships is crucial for overcoming Nigeria’s security challenges.

Condemning the recent altercation as a “public disgrace,” AIG Edung assured the NSCDC delegation that a fair and unbiased investigation would be conducted, in line with the directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Both leaders affirmed their commitment to reinforcing mutual respect and cooperation between their respective agencies to promote peace and strengthen national security efforts.
