Isaiah 55:8–9, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.”
Nobody can fully fathom the thoughts of God towards us. His thoughts are deeply embedded in the mysteries of life. We often do not understand His plans while we are going through certain experiences. However, we eventually see the manifestations of His divine thoughts at the appointed time ordained by Him. This is why Jeremiah 29:11 assures us: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” This is God’s assurance to us that even though His thoughts may appear far above our own understanding, they are always good, peaceful, and purposeful. His ultimate intention is to give us hope and an expected future according to His divine will.
HUMAN THOUGHTS VS GOD’S THOUGHTS
Human thoughts are usually reactions to what we see, hear, or feel. We analyze situations logically and form expectations about how things should happen. But God does not operate based on human logic. No one can truly comprehend God’s motives unless He chooses to reveal them. For example, when God instructed Abraham to leave his homeland and go to a place that He would show him, the instruction seemed illogical from a human perspective.
Genesis 12:1, “Now the LORD had said to Abram: ‘Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you.’ ” To depart from the known to the unknown requires extraordinary faith. Yet within God’s hidden thoughts toward Abraham was a divine plan far greater than Abraham himself. God was preparing him to become the father of many nations, through whom the families of the earth would be blessed. God’s thoughts toward each individual are unique and personal. Everyone has a divinely ordained path designed specifically for the fulfillment of his or her purpose.
Because of this, comparing yourself with another person is unwise. 2 Corinthians 10:12, “For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.”God has predestined each person’s journey. Some may crawl, some may walk, some may run, and others may fly. Yet the beauty of God’s plan is that everyone who aligns with His will will reach their destination at the appointed time. Ecclesiastes 3:11, “He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.”
This Scripture highlights three important truths:
- Divine timing
- Human longing for eternity
- The limitation of human understanding
THE DANGER OF FOLLOWING ANOTHER PERSON’S TIMING
Many people fall into frustration and regret because they attempt to run their race using another person’s timetable. When people abandon God’s timing for their lives and imitate others, the result is often pain, confusion, and disappointment.
What we must do instead is to:
- Seek understanding of God’s purpose for our lives.
- Align ourselves fully with His will.
- Pursue His plan with all our strength and commitment.
God is faithful and will surely perform His counsel.
1 Thessalonians 5:24, “He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.”
HOW TO KNOW THE THOUGHTS OF GOD TOWARDS US
We gain access to God’s thoughts through the following:
- Salvation. Salvation reconnects us to God through Jesus Christ. Without salvation, it is impossible to fully understand God’s purpose for our lives.
- Fellowship with God. Consistent fellowship with God through worship, study of the Word, and obedience strengthens our spiritual sensitivity to His guidance.
- A Righteous Lifestyle. Living righteously keeps us aligned with God’s will and positions us to receive divine direction.
- Prayer and Fasting. Prayer and fasting help us overcome spiritual resistance and align our hearts with God’s plans.
- The Everlasting Covenant through the Blood of Jesus. Through the everlasting covenant sealed by the Blood of Jesus Christ on Calvary, believers have authority to stand against forces of darkness that oppose God’s plans.
STRONGHOLDS THAT RESIST GOD’S PLANS
Even though God has good thoughts toward us, certain strongholds attempt to hinder their manifestation.
How These Strongholds Operate
- Through Self. Sometimes our own fears, doubts, wrong choices, and unbelief can hinder God’s plans.
- Through Household Enemies. Spiritual opposition can sometimes arise from close or familiar sources.
- Through Events of Life. Unexpected life events can temporarily disrupt our journey and distract us from God’s purpose.
HOW TO RESIST ADVERSARIES OF GOD’S PURPOSE
- Prayer and Fasting. Prayer invites divine intervention, while fasting strengthens spiritual authority.
- Meditating on God’s Word. Joshua 1:8, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
- Living a Righteous Life. Psalm 5:12, “For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield.” Hebrews 12:14, “Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.”
PRAYER POINTS
- Oh Lord, I thank You for Your thoughts toward me. They are thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give me hope and a future.
- Oh Lord, thank You for the understanding You have given me through Your Word. This assurance brings me peace and comfort daily. Isaiah 40:8, “The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.”
- Oh Lord, in total obedience, I submit my thoughts to Your thoughts. I will not compare myself with anyone again. My focus remains on You, the Author and Finisher of my faith. Proverbs 3:5–6, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
- Oh Lord, strengthen me through Your Word so that I will not grow weak or weary during waiting seasons, in the name of Jesus Christ.
- Oh Lord, let the everlasting covenant of the sure mercies of David provoke heaven into action to bring Your thoughts to pass in my life, in Jesus’ name.
- Oh Lord, help me not to become an enemy to myself. Any attempt by Satan and his agents to set me against myself shall fail completely in Jesus’ name.
- Micah 7:6 “For son dishonors father, Daughter rises against her mother, Daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; A man’s enemies are the men of his own household.” Every household demonic power, principality, and personality raising storms against my higher flight, be consumed by Holy Ghost fire. Let every raging storm cease now in Jesus’ name.
- Every demonic pattern in my lineage that seeks to obstruct God’s thoughts for my life, be blotted out by the Blood of Jesus Christ. Colossians 2:14, “Having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.”
- Oh Lord, make a public disgrace of powers, principalities, and personalities that stand against Your ordained plans for my life. Colossians 2:15, “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.”
- Mephibosheth, whose name means “out of shame,” was the son of Jonathan and grandson of King Saul. God’s thought toward him was to enjoy royalty. Yet at the age of five, tragedy struck—his father and grandfather died, he became crippled, and he lost his royal status. Any event of life that seeks to alter God’s ordained plans for my life, be cancelled now by the Blood of Jesus Christ.
- He was taken to Lo-debar, a place of obscurity and insignificance. Any event that seeks to take me off the radar of God’s purpose for my life, be cancelled now by the Blood of Jesus.
- David would not have become king in Israel if human protocol had been followed. Oh Lord, I break every yoke of protocol that seeks to delay the manifestation of Your plans for my life in Jesus’ name.
- Oh Lord, I break every yoke of “turn-by-turn” that seeks to waste my destiny in Jesus’ name.
- For my sake, every policy in the affairs of men that seeks to hinder God’s plans for my life, be permanently set aside. Let new policies that favour me emerge in Jesus’ name.
- Mercy and favour located David, Mephibosheth, and Joseph. In this season of higher life, let Your mercy and favour locate me in Jesus’ name.
- Psalm 5:12, “For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield.” Oh Lord, let Your mercy surrounds me and my household as a shield in the name of Jesus Christ
- Through Jesus Christ, the Great Physician, I receive higher health and wellness. I receive soundness in my spirit, soul, and body. Isaiah 53:5, “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.”
- I receive daily provisions to pursue God’s plans for my life. Psalm 34:10, “The young lions lack and suffer hunger; But those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing.”
- I receive daily help for higher life in Jesus’ name. 1 Chronicles 12:22, “For at that time they came to David day by day to help him, until it was a great army, like the army of God.”
- Father, I thank You for answered prayers, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
