Life is governed by divine principles and spiritual laws established by God. These principles determine the outcome of every man’s life and destiny. Anyone who desires to become something meaningful in life must be willing to pursue that vision with diligence, sacrifice, discipline, and unwavering commitment. A dream is the picture of what you desire to become in life. It begins in the imagination, but if it is not backed by action, discipline, and persistence, it will die there. Dreams do not become realities merely because they exist in the imagination. A dream only becomes tangible when it is pursued with determination and obedience to divine instructions.
Many people carry great visions within them, yet die without fulfilling them because they refused to pay the necessary price. A dream that is not pursued will eventually die in the realm of imagination. God has already established the law of sowing and reaping as an unchanging principle upon the earth.
Genesis 8:22, “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease.” This Scripture reveals that harvest is impossible without sowing. Anyone who refuses to sow in the proper season cannot expect a harvest in the future. In the same way, anyone who refuses to labour, obey God, and pursue divine purpose will eventually suffer loss, regret, and wasted years. Proverbs 21:25, “The desire of the lazy man kills him, For his hands refuse to labour.” Proverbs 6:10-11, “A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep— So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler, And your need like an armed man.” Proverbs 6:6, “Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise.”
These are divine principles established by God Himself. Any act of disobedience, laziness, procrastination, or refusal to follow divine direction can lead to wasted opportunities, wasted years, and a wasted destiny. Time lost outside the will of God can only be recovered through divine mercy and intervention.
A life lived outside the will of God is a life of wasted time and wasted destiny. One of the greatest biblical examples of wasted years is the story of Terah, the father of Abram. Terah was not originally meant to settle in Haran. God’s divine purpose was connected to Canaan, yet Terah stopped halfway. Genesis 11:31, “And Terah took his son Abram and his grandson Lot, the son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Abram’s wife, and they went out with them from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to the land of Canaan; and they came to Haran and dwelt there.”
Notice carefully: Terah left Ur with the intention of going to Canaan, but he stopped in Haran. Haran was never the destination; it was only supposed to be a temporary passage. Yet Terah settled there permanently. This single decision altered the course of his life. The Bible further records in Genesis 11:32, “So the days of Terah were two hundred and five years, and Terah died in Haran.” Terah died in the place where he was never meant to remain. This is the tragedy of delayed obedience and incomplete pursuit of divine purpose. Terah began the journey but never completed it. He started moving toward destiny but became comfortable in a place that was never ordained to be his final destination. Terah wasted approximately 135 years in Haran without fulfilling the divine purpose connected to Canaan. Haran became a place of delay, stagnation, limitation, and wasted destiny.
Many believers today are spiritually in “Haran.” God told them to move, but they settled.
God instructed them to pursue purpose, but they became comfortable in delay.
God called them higher, but fear, convenience, distractions, and disobedience kept them stagnant.
Haran represents:
- A place of incomplete obedience
- A place of comfort outside divine purpose
- A place of delay and stagnation
- A place where destiny is suspended
Terah’s greatest tragedy was not that he started late, but that he stopped midway. Incomplete obedience is still disobedience. It was only after Abram separated himself from Haran that the promises of God began to manifest fully in his life. Genesis 12:1-3, “Now the Lord had said to Abram: ‘Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’” Abram was already seventy-five years old before he finally departed from Haran.
The Bible says in Genesis 12:4,“So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.”
Everything changed when Abram obeyed God completely.
Delayed obedience causes delayed manifestations. God later reminded Isaac about Abraham’s obedience in Genesis 26:4-5,“And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed; because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.”
The difference between Terah and Abraham was obedience. Terah stopped halfway. Abraham continued until destiny was fulfilled. Throughout Scripture, whenever the children of Israel disobeyed God, they suffered defeats, captivity, losses, afflictions, and delays. God desired to establish them fully, but disobedience repeatedly interrupted their victory.
God desires absolute and prompt obedience from His children. Once we honour our part, He is always faithful to fulfil His promises. If you do not want your life to become a wasted journey like Terah’s, you must surrender completely to God and follow Him wholeheartedly. Never become comfortable in a spiritual “Haran.” Never settle in a place God intended to be temporary.
Allow God to lead you step by step. He sees the end from the beginning. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. Even though challenges may arise on the journey, victory is guaranteed when God is the One leading you.
The Bible says in Psalm 23:4:
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil;
For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”
And in Psalm 91:1-2: “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.’”
