Esther was an orphan and a captive in a strange land, yet her condition did not stop her from enjoying uncommon favour and grace. Though she lived in captivity in the kingdom of Babylon/Persia, the hand of God rested mightily upon her life. “And the maiden pleased him, and she obtained kindness of him…” — Book of Esther 2:9, “Esther did not only attract favour and grace; she paid the price to walk in it. There were qualities in her life that positioned her for divine lifting and uncommon favour.

  1. Esther Was a Disciplined Young Lady: Esther carried herself with wisdom, humility, and self-control. She did not live carelessly or recklessly. Her disciplined lifestyle made her stand out among others. “Esther had not shewed her people nor her kindred: for Mordecai had charged her that she should not shew it.” — Book of Esther 2:10. Discipline is a key requirement for anyone who desires lasting favour and grace.

  2. Esther Was Obedient: Esther was obedient to instruction and counsel. Mordecai specifically warned her not to reveal her identity, and she obeyed completely. “Esther did the commandment of Mordecai, like as when she was brought up with him.” — Book of Esther 2:20. Her obedience opened the door for divine preservation and elevation. Obedience to godly instruction always attracts God’s blessings.

  3. Esther Was Not Covetous: Esther was content and humble. She did not seek unnecessary worldly attractions or demand extra ornaments like others. She simply followed the instructions given by Hegai (Enouch), the keeper of the women. “And Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.” — Book of Esther 2:15. Because she was humble and obedient, God caused her to find favour before everyone. These virtues — discipline, obedience, humility, and contentment — were the secrets behind Esther’s uncommon favour and grace.

As God remembered Esther in captivity and lifted her to royalty, may He also grant you uncommon favour and grace in every area of your life. You will enjoy uncommon favour and divine grace in Jesus’ name. Amen
