Osun State, Nigeria

The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 32-year-old commercial motorcycle rider, identified as Richard, for allegedly defiling his 12-year-old stepdaughter. The disturbing incident came to light after the victim’s mother reported that her daughter was experiencing severe health complications, including the discharge of maggots from her private parts.

According to the State Commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo, the suspect was apprehended on November 14, 2025, following a formal complaint by his wife. Investigations revealed that the victim had been living with the suspect’s mother. During one of his visits, Richard allegedly assaulted the child by dipping his fingers into her private part.

Further inquiries uncovered that the suspect had been consulting an herbalist for personal issues. In his confessional statement, Richard admitted to committing the crime, claiming he was under the influence of alcohol after acquiring a new motorcycle on installment earlier that day.

The victim’s mother disclosed that she had previously left the marriage due to physical abuse but did not take her daughter along. After settling into a new apartment, she requested custody of her child. Richard promised to bring the girl from his mother’s house but instead took her to his own residence, where the assault occurred.

Upon receiving her daughter, the mother noticed a foul smell and, upon examination, discovered maggots discharging from her private part. The child was immediately taken to the hospital for urgent medical care.

Commandant Sotiyo condemned the act, warning individuals who prey on minors to desist. He emphasized that the NSCDC will not hesitate to bring the full weight of the law upon offenders.

“The command remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of crime in Osun State face the full wrath of the law,” Sotiyo stated.

This case underscores the urgent need for vigilance, community awareness, and stronger protective measures for minors. The NSCDC’s swift action serves as a reminder that justice will be pursued against those who exploit vulnerable children.

As a society, protecting children must remain a collective responsibility. Parents, guardians, and communities must remain alert to signs of abuse and report suspicious behavior immediately. The Osun NSCDC’s decisive stance is a step toward ensuring that perpetrators face justice and survivors receive the care they desperately need.
