Power is the ability to influence and control the events of life. It is the key to gaining authority over circumstances, challenges, and the forces that seek to dominate us. Without power, a person becomes vulnerable—at the mercy of situations, people, or even the devil.
One of the most essential kinds of power a believer must pursue is spiritual power. As you pursue your purpose and dreams in life, you must also seek the corresponding spiritual power to sustain and protect what God has given you. Without it, your dreams may not withstand the trials and opposition that inevitably come.
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” — Acts 1:8
- The Nature of Spiritual Power. Spiritual power is not determined by age, physical stature, social status, or human experience. It is determined by what you carry on the inside—by your connection with God. “For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.” — 1 Corinthians 4:20. To be powerful spiritually, you must be deeply rooted in your relationship with God. This comes primarily through prayer, the Word, and intimacy with the Holy Spirit.
- Power Is Grown, Not Assumed. Spiritual power can grow. We are not born with it fully developed; it is cultivated over time as we walk with God. Just as Jesus grew in wisdom and stature (Luke 2:52), believers can grow in the dimensions of spiritual authority. “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” — 2 Peter 3:18 Growth in spiritual power means growing in grace, boldness, discernment, and effectiveness in prayer and action.
HOW TO DEVELOP SPIRITUAL POWER?
- Through the Word of God. The Word of God builds faith, equips us with truth, and gives us spiritual strength. “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword…” — Hebrews 4:12 “Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.” — Psalm 119:11
- Through Prayer. Powerful believers are always praying believers. Prayer invites God’s presence and builds intimacy with Him. “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” — James 5:16 “Pray without ceasing.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:1
- Through Fasting. Fasting subdues the flesh and sharpens our spiritual sensitivity. It is a biblical key to unlocking deeper spiritual power. “However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” — Matthew 17:21
- Through Daily Communion with God. Daily fellowship with the Holy Spirit aligns our hearts with God’s will and keeps us spiritually alert and empowered. “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself… so neither can you unless you abide in Me.” — John 15:4 “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;” — Ephesians 5:18
The Effect of Spiritual Power
Spiritual power changes situations. It allows you to stand tall against adversity and to fulfill your divine destiny.
“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” — Luke 10:19
When you walk in power:
- You command results in the spiritual and physical realms.
- You are not easily defeated.
- You become a solution-bearer, a vessel God can use for His glory.
Every believer must develop spiritual power to fulfill purpose. Crave it. Pursue it. Grow in it. Power is not optional in this generation; it is necessary.
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” — Ephesians 6:10
