It is God’s desire that His children live in abundant joy — a joy that is deep, enduring, and beyond human understanding. This joy is not based on external circumstances, but on our relationship with Him, His promises, and the victory we have in Christ Jesus. Even in the midst of trials, God calls us to remain joyful. His joy is a strength that carries us through seasons of pain, uncertainty, and opposition.
EVERY CHRISTIAN SHOULD TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING:
- God Desires Our Joy to Be Full. John 15:11, “These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.” God does not want us to have partial joy. His intention is that we live in fullness of joy — a joy that is rooted in Him, sustained by His Word, and unaffected by the storms of life. John 16:24, “Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.” The joy that comes from answered prayers is another confirmation that God is attentive to our needs and desires our hearts to overflow with gladness.
- Joy That Surpasses Understanding. The joy God gives is not natural — it is supernatural. It is peace and joy beyond comprehension. Philippians 4:7, “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Though this verse speaks of peace, it is directly connected to joy, because the two walk hand-in-hand. Joy beyond comprehension comes from resting in God’s peace that the world cannot explain or replicate.
- The Joy of the Lord is Your Strength. Nehemiah 8:10, “Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” God’s joy strengthens the weary, uplifts the brokenhearted, and empowers us to rise above adversity.
- Rejoice Always, Even in Tribulation. John 16:33, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” Jesus warned us that tribulations will come, but He gave us a greater assurance — that He has overcome. That victory is our source of unshakable joy. 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18, “Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” Joy is not seasonal — it is continual. God’s will is that we rejoice always, not because all things are good, but because God is good in all things.
- Joy in Tribulation Produces Endurance and Glory. Romans 5:3–5, “And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” We don’t rejoice because of trouble, but in spite of it. Because we know God is working something glorious in us. James 1:2–4, “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” There is maturity and completeness that only come from staying joyful through trials.
- The Holy Spirit Source of Incomprehensible Joy. Romans 14:17, “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.” Joy is a fruit of the Spirit. When you walk in the Spirit, you cannot be joyless. Galatians 5:22, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith…” This is not man-made joy, but heaven-sent, Spirit-birthed gladness that defies logic.
- Everlasting Joy Is Our Portion. Isaiah 35:10, “And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.” The end of our story is joy — eternal, unshakable, unending joy. If you are redeemed, everlasting joy is your heritage.
God never promised a trouble-free life, but He promised joy that is untouched by troubles. Joy beyond comprehension comes from knowing:
- Who you are in Christ
- What Christ has done for you
- And what awaits you beyond this life
Even in the valley of the shadow of death, the believer walks with joyful confidence.
