The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Osun State Command has apprehended Jide Fadipe, a 40-year-old resident of Ilaje-Area, BJ4 Ilesa, Osun State, for allegedly vandalizing a government primary school building.

The arrest followed a tip-off from a concerned citizen in Ilesa, who reported the recurring theft of iron sheets and other valuables from the school. Acting on this information, the command, led by State Commandant Michael Adaralewa, PhD, initiated a surveillance operation around the school.

On Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at around 5 am, Fadipe was caught in the act, removing the roofing sheets. He was later apprehended at his residence while attempting to sell the stolen materials to metal scrap buyers in Ilesa.

Commandant Adaralewa cited Section 451 of the Criminal Code law Cap 34, Laws of Osun State, Nigeria, which states that “any person who willfully and unlawfully destroys or damages any property is guilty of an offence and is liable.”

He assured the public that Fadipe would face the full weight of the law, serving as a deterrent to others inclined to destroy government property.
