Anchor scriptures: 1 Samuel 9:1–8; 1 Samuel 10:1–2
In life, everyone is searching for something. Whether they know it or not, the human soul is in pursuit—of meaning, of destiny, of purpose. Greatness often begins with a search, and success is the product of recovery.
1 Samuel 9:1-8, “1Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphiah, a Benjamite, a mighty man of power. 2And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people. 3And the asses of Kish Saul’s father were lost. And Kish said to Saul his son, Take now one of the servants with thee, and arise, go seek the asses. 4And he passed through mount Ephraim, and passed through the land of Shalisha, but they found them not: then they passed through the land of Shalim, and there they were not: and he passed through the land of the Benjamites, but they found them not. 5And when they were come to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant that was with him, Come, and let us return; lest my father leave caring for the asses, and take thought for us. 6And he said unto him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honourable man; all that he saith cometh surely to pass: now let us go thither; peradventure he can shew us our way that we should go. 7Then said Saul to his servant, But, behold, if we go, what shall we bring the man? for the bread is spent in our vessels, and there is not a present to bring to the man of God: what have we? 8And the servant answered Saul again, and said, Behold, I have here at hand the fourth part of a shekel of silver: that will I give to the man of God, to tell us our way.”
1 Samuel 10:1–2, “1Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance? 2When thou art departed from me today, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel’s sepulchre in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou wentest to seek are found: and, lo, thy father hath left the care of the asses, and sorroweth for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?”
Your search may begin in the physical, but it will end in the spiritual.
You may be looking for donkeys, but God is preparing you for a throne.
- Everyone is in search of something. Some are in search of relevance, healing, direction, greatness, or destiny. But only those who persist in their search ever arrive at significance. Jeremiah 29:13, “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
- Some had greatness but lost it. It is painful to have tasted greatness and then lose it. Many people do not know what they truly want. Pride is the enemy of pursuit.
Every proud man is not on a true search. When you know what you’re searching for, you’re willing to drop your dignity. Blind Bartimaeus shouted despite the crowd—he dropped his pride to pursue his healing.
When God goes ahead of you, it makes your way pleasant. Psalms 105:14–15, “He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes; Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.” Genesis 31:24, “And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said unto him, Take heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.” Even when Jacob was unaware of the danger ahead, God went before him and warned Laban not to harm him. This is what happens when God goes ahead of you—He speaks to your adversaries before they reach you.
Not every good-looking door is divine—only the one God opens leads to fulfillment. May the Lord go ahead of you in every decision.
Daniel 6:22, “My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me…” When God goes ahead of you, danger is neutralized.
THE MINISTRY OF MEN
1 Samuel 9:6 (KJV): “And he said unto him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honourable man…” For Saul to find the donkeys and step into kingship, he had to meet a man—Samuel. Men are ladders. Men are connectors. Men are destiny-activators.
1 Samuel 16:17 (KJV): “And Saul said unto his servants, provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.” When the right man enters your life, your gifts are exaggerated, and your path is accelerated.
