Text: Psalm 27:6
“And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me…”
UNDERSTANDING ENEMIES
- Who is an Enemy?
- An enemy is anyone who passionately hates another, becomes angry at their success, and seeks their downfall.
- Even God has enemies – Revelation 12:7 (the war in heaven).
- If God and Jesus have enemies, who are you not to have them?
- Enemies Are Inevitable
- A man without enemies is a man without value.
- You cannot please your enemies – Micah 2:8.
- Psalm 38:19: “But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.”
- Types of Enemies
- Enemies Within: Judas was among the disciples.
- Enemies Without: Those who hate from afar.
- Matthew 13:38: The field is the world, the good seed are the children of the kingdom, the tares are the children of the wicked one.
- Seen and Unseen, Spiritual and Physical – 1 Peter 5:8: “Be sober, be vigilant…”
WHEN YOUR HEAD IS LIFTED ABOVE YOUR ENEMIES
- You Are Positioned Above All Evil Schemes
- Psalm 91:7: “A thousand shall fall at thy side…”
- The lifting is divine; no power can pull you down when God lifts you up.
- You Become Victorious in All Battles
- God does not lift your head to admire the enemy but to establish victory.
- Psalm 27:1-3: Fear not!
- Your Enemies Become Your Decorators
- Psalm 23:5: “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies…”
- What they planned for your shame becomes a stage for your celebration.
- You Come Out Gloriously, While They Wait for Your Shame
- Isaiah 61:7: “For your shame ye shall have double…”
- Acts 23:13: More than 40 men took an oath not to eat till they killed Paul – yet he lived and fulfilled his purpose.
HOW TO OBTAIN VICTORY?
- Know Your God
- Galatians 4:9: “But now, after that ye have known God…”
- The God you serve must be more than religion; He must be personal.
- Do Not Be Afraid of the Roar of the Enemy
- Romans 8:31: “If God be for us, who can be against us?”
- Isaiah 31:1-3: Woe to those who rely on Egypt – human help.
- 2 Kings 6:15-17: Elisha’s servant saw the enemy; Elisha saw the host of heaven.
- Let Your Desire Be Toward the Lord
- Psalm 27:4-6: Seek His presence, not just His protection.
- Desire to dwell in His house, and He will lift your head above all enemies.
When God lifts your head, no man can pull you down. Your enemies seen or unseen, known or unknown become a stepping stone to glory. The same ones who wished your downfall will witness your rising. Stay focused on God. Desire His presence more than His gifts. Victory is guaranteed when the Lord is your lifter.
