It was a mixed reaction at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence, Osun State Command, cooperative building, as the executive members of Staff Cooperative Investment Credit Society Limited gives cheques to some members in settlement of their entitlements and benefits.
In his address, the president of the society, Ogundoyin Ayodeji O (ACC) thanked almighty God for the privilege to witness the programme. He expressed his appreciation to the patron of the society, Commandant Sunday Adisa Agboola for given express approval when the notice of the programme was taken to his office. He said “In everything we should give thanks. This is the commandment of God to us irrespective of the season will find ourselves. He said further, “This is a programme I find extremely difficult to preside over. No one wants the inevitable event like this to happen suddenly. But when it happens, what shall we do? We will only take our comforts in Him, our Creator, the One who knows the end from the beginning.” Our prayer is that the Almighty God will comfort the families left behind.” He concluded.
He also said that the welfare of members irrespective of their status (dead or alive, active or inactive) is paramount to the society and as part of the resolutions made by the society, the present executive members has given approval to give a cheque of N500,000 to each next-of-kin of the deceased members. “All the savings of each member in the purse of the society will be released to their next-of-kin today.” He said.
He gave the summary of payments made between 2020 till March 2023 as N29,451,718.33. The payments fall under the following categories: (Deceased’s savings: N5,790,186.33; Death benefit: 2,200,000.00; Retired members: N7,956,848; Voluntary withdrawal: N12,777,437 and Expelled members: N1,046,247. He disclosed further that the sum of N5,989,247 will be released to members under the following categories in today’s programme: (Deceased’s savings N1,881,655, Death benefit N2,900,000.00; voluntary withdrawal N1,103,633 and expelled members (N103,633)
In conclusion, he admonished the members to continue supporting the present administration. He prayed that the society will continue to soar higher and higher.
In patron’s address, ably represented by the Head of Department of Welfare, Adebayo Ajoke (DCC), she appreciated the cooperative for this laudable programme and also prayed for the relatives of the deceased members.
One of the next-of-kin of the deceased members, Professor Oparinde David Pius, of College of Medicine and Health Science, Lautech Ogbomoso expressed his gratitude to the society for this initiative. He said in decades of being in active service as a member of cooperative society in another organisation, he has not witness this kind of development. He prayed that God will continue to uphold the society.
In another development, a tricycle known as “Keke NAPEP” was given to one of the members of the society as part of the empowerment programme of the society.
