The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) Osun State Command paraded a 25year old man, Ayanrinde Abdulgafar , who has been pretending to be a legal practitioner. While parading the suspect at the State Command, Ayepe, Osogbo, Osun State, the State Commandant, Mr. Agboola Sunday said the suspect has been using a false identity as a lawyer to defrauding innocent members of the public of their hard-earned money under the guise of holding briefs at different courts.
According to Commandant Agboola, the suspect has operated in different states in Nigeria, using his full regalia (gown and wig) to defraud POS Operators in court premises by collecting money, with the aim of transferring it but would later disappear.
The fake lawyer was arrested in a hotel on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Ilorin Kwara State, where the suspect presented himself as a barrister of law to one cab driver on 23rd May, 2023, he requested the driver to drive him down to Osogbo before heading to Federal High Court, Akure.
On getting to Federal High Court Akure, he exchanged pleasantries with lawyers and approached a POS woman in the court premises for the sum of one hundred and fifty thousand naira (N150,000.00) with the aim to do transfer.
The suspect collected the phone of the driver to share his internet facility in order to do the transfer. But he entered the court premises and disappeared into thin air. He was tracked to Ilorin, Kwara State by the officers and men of the corps from Osun State Command. He said further that, Ayanrinde Abdulgafar confessed to have committed the offence and would be charged to a court of competent jurisdiction.
